ORC ASSAULT GREENLIT ON STEAM

Thanks for everyone who voted for Orc Assault! We're happy to be able to release our game on Steam for the Vive Headset and Oculus DK2. We think that this will be one of our most popular VR experiences, appealing to games of all ages.

Back in February 2015 indie developer Ghost Machine launched a Steam Greenlight campaign for a new virtual reality (VR) videogame named Orc Assaultfor the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs). The tower defence title was one of a number of Greenlight campaigns the developer was running at the time, many of which have now gone on to be approved by the Steam community. This month sees Orc Assault itself pass its Greenlight campaign, meaning it will release on Valve’s digital store come full launch.

Orc Assault is one of the first titles to mix VR technology with the tower defence genre. The videogame tasks players with building towers that will attack waves of ‘Disneyesque’ enemies, including orcs, trolls, ogres and goblins. Set in the land of Camalon, players are given a top-down perspective, allowing them to fully survey the enemy’s path and then arrange defences according. Orc Assault even includes its own first-person move in which players can assist their towers, fighting enemies themselves with a machine gun in hand.

Ghost Machine hopes to launch Orc Assault in late 2015, potentially placing it as a launch title for the HTC Vive, which itself is aiming for a holiday release. As for the Oculus Rift version, the consumer HMD is expected to ship in Q1 2016, though Orc Assault could well see an initial release on the device’s second development kit (DK2) as well. The developer is also currently working on VR zombie shooter, Endless Dead, as well as Final Strike, which recently launched in Alpha. It was also involved in this month’s Room-Scale VR Jam, developing Kaiju Rampage for the contest.
